Lake2Lake Ride for Rwanda and COVID-19 Update
To our Lake2Lake Community,
As the COVID-19 situation unfolds before us, we are well aware that we don’t fully comprehend how this will impact our daily lives and futures. We want to do our best to attend to the present situation, care for those most impacted, and keep moving forward with courage and hope.
Many of us are concerned with how the future will impact the events we look forward to and enjoy. We have heard of many fundraising runs and rides being forced to cancel, and we are deeply saddened by this. Our hearts go out to all the organizations deeply affected by this.
At this time, we are still planning to host the Lake2Lake Ride for Rwanda on the weekend of September 19-20, 2020. With several months until the event, we are hopeful that the COVID-19 situation will have shifted by then. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you posted in the months to come.
With this in mind, registration for the Ride will still open Wednesday, April 1st. Should we be required to cancel the physical event, we promise to provide you with a full refund on your registration. While donations would not be refunded, we would find a creative virtual alternative for you to still ride for Rwanda – whether in your neighbourhood, on your trainer, or in some other way – while staying connected to the Lake2Lake community.
We do hope you will join us for this year’s ride so that we can offer ongoing support to vulnerable communities in Rwanda—both at the school level (as schools are often a focal point for community care, food programs, and overall social cohesion), and by playing our part in Rwanda’s wider response to the crisis. More than ever, we feel the need for the Lake2Lake Ride for Rwanda so that our work can continue.
In the meantime, we hope that you are staying safe, healthy, and hopeful in these uncertain times. For as long as it is safe to do so, we encourage you to keep riding—whether on your own or at a safe physical distance. You can check out the official Lake2Lake training schedule here.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns we invite them all at this time. We are all in this together, so please do not hesitate to reach out. We look forward to keeping connected in the weeks and months to come.
